Right, This is not a yoga post. But why not share what works, what is convenient and cheap, and what saves time (and arm fatigue) - this is a hack that works for any girl who's struggled curling their own hair.

I have been going to Dawson, my hair stylist for more than 10 years now and he always finishes my hair cut with sexy waves, which I can never replicate myself. (I did try and my arms nearly died trying.)

This was me way back in 2008, the old party days. Used to spend a fortune on my hair. Boy do I miss my long lustrous (and healthy) hair and my youthful, ahem energy.

The funny thing is that curling my own hair is probably a skill I wish I had back then, but I really don’t need to do it now as I don’t go out much these days. But who knows. I even have the regular hair curler, which is collecting dust, for the just-in-case.

I never imagined someone would invent something that works for ambinistrous hands.

Ambisinistrous, not to be confused with ambidextrous - it’s the opposite of that and it means clumsy or unskilful with both hands; lack dextrity. That is me when it comes to hair curlers and Malay dance.

So enters the Wireless Automatic Hair curler. It's not exactly new. I don't know why I've never heard of it. I've heard of Babybliss, Dyson and the usual expensive schmuck.

Wylera hair popped up as a sponsored ad on my Instagram. After a few days of seeing Wylera on my feed, I started getting curious and very keen.

I did my research and I was ready to go and it was in my shopping cart. But before I did the deed, I had to sell my current hair curler first, right?

As I was looking for similar curlers so as to price it appropriately, the google ads came up with a carousel of curlers, and then I saw something similar to Wylera on shopee.

Guess how much it cost?

S$36!!!

And Wylera costs $159 USD!!

My options were simple

  1. Buy the so-called original at the exorbitantly high price (I was willing, mind you.) OR

  2. Cut my losses and in this case if this curler doesn't work or I couldn't work it - it's only S$40.

Obviously I bought the cheapo version. I'm sorry, Wylera. I try to go for the best deals, that's how I roll. (It could be a Singaporean thing!)

I do have a little guilt. I know there's a lot of wrong in my purchase, ie buying a "fake" product, instead of supporting the original seller. But who’s to know who the original creator is?

If you search for Automatic Hair Curler, there’s a few brands with varying price ranges. Moreover most items I found, even if they are a US brand are most likely made in China, as this is.

I'm saving money for my husband - that's how I'm justifying this decision.🙂

Back to this magical hair curler -

IT WORKS and it's easy! It took me 30 mins first time. No sweating or arm strength required. I feel accomplished. My hair feels softer and smoother and the curls lasted even without any hair products.

And that’s why I highly recommend it if you are lazy bum like me.

ADDITIONAL TIPS

I’m not a vlogger and neither will I test my lack of video editing prowess in creating a tutorial on how to use it. But I've included a link to a youtube tutorial below, which was very useful.

In the meantime - here are some tips that will hopefully ease your hair curling adventure:

  • Charge before you use it

  • Use 1 or 2 days old hair for lasting stay without any products.

  • Brush your hair and make sure it’s free of knots

  • I used 160 degrees celcius as it's recommended for fine hair but it goes up to 200 and as low as 150.

  • The longer the hair is in the barrel the tighter the curls , so you can set your timer accordingly. In the picture, I set at the original setting of 12 secs (but it runs from 8 to 16 secs)

  • Don't put too much hair in the barrel otherwise the curler won’t beep (recommended is 2 cm)

  • Do one side of hair first (Reason for this is the curler has an option to curl to the R or L. You should use the R function if you are curling your Left side and vice versa. Every time you switch sides, you have to fiddle with the buttons, and you can do that too if you like. But to save time, you can do one side first.)
